My First Concert Experience (revisited from 2008)

I would just like to say this was written around 3 years ago when I was much younger and less mature so please excuse any grammar mistakes or childish comments. Besides that please enjoy...

I just went and saw my very first live concert and all i can say is wow. It was absolutely amazing.
It was WAY more than i had imagined it would be. I don’t even know where to begin...
Prepare yourself for a long but enjoyable read.
Well let’s see, that morning i woke up at about 8:30. I’m not really sure why but it might have had something to do with the extremely terrible headache i had. I felt like my head was in a vice-grip. So i tossed and turned for hours in an attempt to get back to sleep but my effort was futile. So i got out of bed, or should i say couch (i was at a friend’s house), and start milling around. I got sum water and washed my face, anything to try and loosen the noose that was strangling my head. Again my effort was futile. So i decided i would just watch the tube until everyone else woke up, which didn’t take too long. After everyone woke up and was moving around we immediately went into packing mode. We got everything we needed, all our bags, lawn chairs, etc. Then we got on the road, at 11:11. We drove for a little while up the keys until we reached the Island Grill. We grabbed a bite to eat and moved on. Eventually, sometime around 5 i think, after much driving on rain-soaked highway we arrived at our hotel. Our room was very nice, it was a king suite which we got for $67. Oh and the tickets were only $10 a piece. So we didn’t spend too much time at the hotel before leaving, around 6ish so that we could get there well before the 7:00 start. It was still raining pretty hard when we got there but that sure didn’t dampen my spirits, up until now my excitement had been very contained but now i couldn’t hold it back. So i donned my rain-jacket and got moving. Once inside i was attracted straight to the memorabilia stand like a moth to a flame. I bought 2 great counting crows shirts and then i was completely ready to go sit down. Oh by the way if i haven’t mentioned yet the bands that were playing were Augustana, Counting Crows and Maroon 5. So once we were positioned on the lawn i became completely absorbed in what was happening on the stage and nothing at that time really mattered, not even the downpour that was continuing. The first band Augustana played and they were pretty good but i was too anxious to get to Counting Crows, the entire reason i embarked on this journey. After a 25min wait for them to reset the stage my wish was granted and one of the greatest experiences of my life began. Though they didn’t perform their most popular, and my favorite, songs i definitely was not disappointed. After a couple songs Augustana was brought back out and soon 2 bands became 1 and Augustana And Everything After Adam And Chris Love Counting Crows was formed. The following performance by this "new band" was phenomenal as one of CC's greatest songs was combined with one of Augustana's as well as, now prepare yourself for this, a song by the Beatles! It was absolutely amazing, spectacular, and breathtaking; i don’t even think there’s a word to describe it. I’ll just have to make one later. After this spectacle that lasted about 15min, Adam F. Duritz topped it off with a wonderful, moving speech about helping your community, voting and patriotism that could have rivaled JFK. He spoke about making sure you vote no matter who for and taking the country back into the control of its people and that all of us can make a difference everyday of our lives. After this miracle which had just occurred before my eyes i didn’t know what to think but i did know that i sure didn’t fell like watching Maroon 5 hopelessly trying to top that magical performance. So after watching them perform 3 songs, during which the rain started back up, oh yea i forgot to mention it didn’t rain at all during CC's performance, i said farewell to the Cruzan Amphitheatre hoping to maybe return sum day for another such unforgettable experience. As i rode away, i continued to attempt to wrap my throbbing mind (yes the vice-grip was still on) around everything that i had witnessed. As i went to bed that night all i could think was that this must have been the best dream ever but then i realized if it was a dream it would never end. So with the reassuring thought that it was all real i slipped off into a peaceful sleep.
I will never forget this experience and even though i plan on going to many many more concerts in my lifetime something tells me none will ever be able to match this. As for whoever is reading this i simply will say to you that if you haven’t been to a concert yet then put it on the top of your to-do list because it is a necessary part of a good life and no matter who you go see it will be a life-changing experience that you will never forget, this i promise you.

Oh and just to say since then this concert has indeed been topped by Dave Matthews Band in 2010, but thats no surprise.
